A MEMORIAL fund has been set up to commemorate Eithne Ryan, who was principal of Alexandra College in Dublin for 18 years, and one of the most respected figures in Irish secondary education.

A classics graduate from UCG, she was intimately involved in all of the major developments in the classics over the years and was a founding member of the Irish Association of Classical Teachers, which she also served as president. For many years, she represented the Joint Managerial Body of Protestant and Catholic schools on the classics syllabus committee.

A committee has been convened to collect funds and then to decide on what form a memorial would take. To date, suggestions include an annual prize, a painting with a classical theme or a bursary. Other suggestions would be welcomed by the committee.

Donations can be sent to the Eithne Ryan Memorial Fund, A/C Number 60825872, Bank of Ireland, Main Street, Dundrum, Dublin 14. You can get further information from Honor O'Connor, Alexandra College, Milltown, Dublin 6.
