Restricted application

Most third-level art and design courses fall into the restricted application category. This means you must apply by February 1st, 2000. Late applications are not accepted for these courses as some additional form of assessment other than the Leaving Cert results - usually a portfolio, project or interview - also applies.

NCAD core

Students must apply directly to the college for admission to first year core. The minimum educational requirement is two higher-level C3s and four ordinary-level D3s at Leaving Certificate. Subjects must include Irish, English and a third language or art. The completed application form and portfolio must be with NCAD by the last Friday in January. Applicants are not normally called for interview. First year core is the first year of the four-year degree courses in craft design, fashion design, textile design, visual communication, fine art and their joint options.

PLC options

A number of colleges offer PLC courses in art and design and in portfolio preparation. Check with your local VEC or PLC provider for details.
