The reasons why someone is unemployed may not always be obvious. Dyslexia and literacy problems are big barriers to employment for those affected although they are often forgotten as these problems may be hidden from view.
People with dyslexia rarely lack ability, but they often fear that their difficulties will be misunderstood in the wider world. This can make them reluctant to opt for mainstream training.
Now, however, a specific IT and enterprise training course for unemployed people with dyslexia has been developed. The programme has been totally designed to accommodate those with dyslexia and it is being funded by the Horizon organisation and FAS and sponsored by the Association for Children & Adults with Learning Disabilities.
The course offers the opportunity to learn how to use computers and to deal with the paperwork involved in running a business. For information, contact Anne Hughes at (01) 679 0276 or email acld@iol.ie
