Racism is an issue which should be of concern to us all

Racism is an issue which should be of concern to us all. You can learn how racism operates and how you can challenge it in your community, school or workplace by attending the Antiracism Training Workshop this Saturday at UCD. The workshop will be run by Shalini Sinha of the UCD Women's Education and Resource Centre (tel: (01) 706 8571).

"Racism is in Ireland and we can break it down," she says. "However, we must be thoughtful and organised in order to do so."

Third-level science students who put pen to paper, could win £1,000 in the International Science Writing Award 1999. All you have to do to be in with a chance is to submit an essay giving details of your recent research in chemistry, materials science, healthcare, the environment, energy, food, agriculture or biology. It's vital, though, that you write in a style that is enjoyable to read and is comprehensible to the non-scientist. The closing date is Friday, April 30th.
