The IVEA has called on the Government to formulate an Adult Education Act and establish by statute an Adult Education Authority. At the launch of its policy document on adult education last Thursday, Tony McKenna, deputy president of the IVEA, called for a representative adult education board, which, he said, "if properly resourced, could adequately service the adult and continuing education needs of each of our VEC scheme areas". He called for the development of centres for adult and continuing education in all large centres of population. "Adequate resourcing is essential if adult and continuing education is to realise the individual and collective potential of our society," he said.
"We can no longer look on this dynamic and innovative area of education as an addendum to other educational activities."
