Start stocking up on popcorn and dolly mixtures now for a number of screenings of The Boy from Mercury this month in Dublin, Cork and Galway, organised by the Film Institute of Ireland. A number of special viewings has been arranged for primary schools.
The film will be screened at the Irish Film Centre in Dublin next Thursday, Friday and Monday. The award-winning film will be shown at Cork's Kino Cinema on Wednesday and Thursday next week and at the Galway's Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday, June 2nd, and Wednesday, June 3rd, in conjunction with the Galway Film Centre.
Made by Martin Duffy, the film raises a number of issues such as space travel, family, friendship and bullying. The FII have produced a study guide for teachers and pupils which contains a range of activities focusing on the themes raised by the film as well as looking at scenes in the film itself. The cost of the screening is £1.50 per student and teachers are free.
