A community-based education programme for the development and enhancement of traditional storytelling in the Liberties area of Dublin using digital technology was unveiled this afternoon.

The Digital Hub-backed Digital Storytellingproject was launched today by Fifth Class students in Francis Street CBS, one of ten participating primary schools.

The students, aged 10-11 years, have been actively participating in the project over the past three weeks.

In all over 210 students are participating in the Digital Storytellingproject using technologies such as digital cameras, mini-disc recorders, and laptop computers.

The project involves pupils, parents and grandparents from the local community and will result in their stories being published on CD, DVD, the Web and in print as well as a video documentary on the whole process.

Visual art students from the National College of Art and Design are collaborating with the schools to set up and design a website to publish their stories.
