Editor of 'Irish Medical Times' dies

Aindreas McEntee, the editor of the Irish Medical Times, has died aged 50, following a long illness.

Aindreas McEntee, the editor of the Irish Medical Times, has died aged 50, following a long illness.

Born in Cavan town, he started his journalistic career with the Anglo Celt in 1972. He joined the Irish Press Group in 1978 and was appointed assistant news editor of the Evening Press in 1991. Following the closure of the newspaper he worked with the Sunday Express before taking up an appointment as staff reporter with the Irish Medical Times in 1996. He was appointed editor in April 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, and daughters, Clare and Sinéad.

Two of Mr McEntee's brothers are also journalists who previously worked with the Irish Press Group. Mr John McEntee has lived in London for a number of years and is a well-known diary columnist who has worked on the Evening Standard and the Daily Express. He is now with the Daily Mail. Mr Myles McEntee has been a news reporter with the Irish Sun since 1995 when the Irish Press closed. Their father, Mr Andy McEntee, was the editor of the Anglo Celt.
