The Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA) has today announced it will accept Labour Court recommendations aimed at resolving the electricians' dispute.
A meeting for members of the ECA was held today in Portlaoise to discuss the Labour Court recommendation issued last Saturday, and the members agreed to formally accept the recommendations.
In a statement the ECA said that recommendation came after lengthy Labour Relations Commission aimed at ending the "unnecessary" strike action of last week.
The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) has welcomed the decision of the ECA.
The TEEU executive is to meet tomorrow evening to review the situation. The Association of Electrical Contractors Ireland has yet decide its position.
On Monday, thousands of electricians went back to work after a week-long strike following the decision by the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) to accept the Labour Court recommendations.
The Labour Court’s recommendations include an adherence by all parties to the registered employment agreement and a review of the agreement within four months.
Under an agreed process electricians’ pay is decided annually against comparable employment in 16 other sectors. The TEEU claimed its employees were due 11.3 per cent, 4.9 per cent from April 1st, 2008, and another 6.4 per cent from April 1st, 2009.
The Labour Court has recommended that the 4.9 per cent increase be implemented first.
