EBay is to offer health insurance to its top-performing sellers.
The move will accommodate the growing number of people who make a living from eBay's US site.
The company estimates there are more than 40,000 people making between $2,000 and $25,000 a month.
EBay says it expects to launch health insurance in October, but could not provide further details.
The idea has already been welcomed by users. Toy seller Mr Kurt Dietrich said: "I think it's great . . . everybody needs health insurance."
A company spokesman said: "We've been hearing from our users that they wish there was some way eBay could work with an insurance provider to get health coverage. In many instances, they had left a brick and mortar job."
Those eligible must be registered with eBay's Power Seller programme.
EBay operates in 27 countries, accommodating nearly 50 million registered users.
