Low-cost airline EasyJet plans to buy up to 75 new aircraft in the largest-ever order placed by a budget carrier in Europe, the Financial Timeshas reported.

Chief Executive Mr Ray Webster said talks had been held with US-based Boeing and its European aircraft manufacturing rival Airbus about a potential order that could expand its fleet to 100 aircraft by 2007, the newspaper reported today.

The FTsaid although the aircraft would be worth up to $4 billion at list prices, the order would attract a big discount given the depressed state of the world market for civil aeroplanes following the September 11th attacks.
