London - Mrs Deborah Eappen, the US doctor whose baby died in the care of the British nanny, Louise Woodward, is expecting another child, the Daily Mirror reports in today's editions.
Woodward was convicted on October 30th of second-degree murder of eight-month-old Matthew Eappen. But a judge reduced the conviction to manslaughter and sentenced the 19-year-old, from Elton in north-west England, to the time she had already served in jail. A prosecution appeal against the leniency of the sentence is due to be heard in Massachusetts as early as next month.
"Our new baby will help keep Mattie's memory alive," the Mirror, quoted Mrs Eappen as saying. The paper also quoted a family friend, Ms Margaret Pothier, as saying the Eappens kept the pregnancy secret during the trial because they were already under the spotlight.
