Comedian Dylan Moran added a few favours to his credit this week after he saved the bacon for the new comedy venue, Murphy's Laughter Lounge. The gregarious British comedian Jo Brand was due arrive in Dublin on Thursday, complete with her new husband, Bernie Bourke, to launch the new comedy venue. Unfortunately she had to pull out on Thursday afternoon due to illness, leaving a whole lot of people tearing their hair out and feeling distinctly unfunny.
This is where our hero, Dylan Moran, stepped in - luckily he was in Dublin this week, in the process of moving house. He joined a host of other comedians including Miles Crawford, Andy Robinson, Steve Frost, Barry Murphy and Mark Doherty. Those who joined him in celebrating the new club were comedian Brendan O'Carroll; RTE's Sean Moncrieff; comedians Deirdre O'Kane (who has already appeared on the Laughter Lounge stage) and Michelle Read; playwright Tom Murphy and his partner actor Jane Brennan, who came up after rehearsals for Murphy's The Wake in the Abbey; Kino cinema's Mick Hannigan, actors Sean McGinley, Claudia Carroll and Tony Tormey from Fair City and Enda Oates from Glenroe.
