Brussels - Two gendarmes who were guarding the suspected child murderer Marc Dutroux when he escaped from custody in 1998 will not be prosecuted, a court ruled yesterday because media coverage had prejudiced the case. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Neufchateau, southern Belgium, where Mr Dutroux is being held for his alleged part in the abduction, rape, torture and murder of four young girls, immediately appealed the ruling.
