The Dutch cabinet held an emergency meeting tonight to discuss whether parliamentary elections should go ahead May 15 after far-right politician Mr Pim Fortuyn was shot dead.
Health Minister Mr Els Borst called the shooting of Mr Fortuyn, known for his anti-immigrant rhetoric, "a murder in the framework of the elections, which could be cause for a delay."
He spoke just before the cabinet convened.
The 54-year-old Fortuyn was gunned down in the central city of Hilversum just nine days before the elections, in which his self-styled Pim Forutyn's List party had been expected to make a sizeable showing.
