Dublin City Council has asked people to conserve water to pre-empt shortages over the summer months.
Reduced rainfall in March and April and reduced run-off into water reservoirs in May has led to a reduction in the amount of water available for treatment and public use in the council area.
While there is no immediate need to impose restrictions, they may be unavoidable should the dry spell continue or if demand for water increases during the summer period.
A council spokesman said people were being asked to conserve water “and particularly to avoid hosing lawns or washing cars”. More advice on conserving water can be found at taptips.ie
