Dublin recorded a tremendous victory over Waterford in Division 1A of the National Hurling League today.
Kevin Fennelly’s side collected their first points of the campaign as they registered a 1-19 to 1-14 victory at Parnell Park.
The game was Waterford’s for the taking but Justin McCarthy’s side will rue the 17 wides they hit.
Dublin upped their performance soon after Kevin Ryan deflected Paul Flynn’s first half penalty onto the post.
Ger Ennis killed off the Waterford challenge with a smart 1-1 during the second half.
Ollie Fahy's late goal saw Galway edge Clare by a single point (1-17 to 1-16) at Ballinasloe. The win moves the Tribesmen top of Division 1A - level on four points with Clare and Kilkenny. The Cats sauntered to a 2-22 to 0-9 win over lowly Meath.
Tipperary suffered their second successive defeat in Division 1B as Wexford ran out nine point winners at Wexford Park.
Wexford started the game at a ferocious pace and dominated the play throughout, never letting the reigning All-Ireland champions settle.
Tipperary lacked imagination and accuracy up front and were soon 2-3 to 0-1 down. Larry O’Gorman and David O’Brien finding the net for the home side.
John O’Brien pulled a goal back for Tipp in the second half before Mitch Jordan netted Wexford’s third late in the game.
In the NFL, Roscommon maintained their impressive push for league honours with a tidy 0-16 to 0-12 victory over Westmeath while Offaly’s well earned win away to Cork sees Westmeath relegated to the foot of Division 1A.
