A Dublin radio station lost money "hand over fist" while one of its founding members was chief executive, the Employment Appeals Tribunal heard yesterday, writes Kitty Holland

Barrister Tom Mallon was speaking at an unfair dismissal case taken by former managing director Martin Block (61), of Milltown, Dublin. Acting for Choice Broadcasting, which operates 4FM radio, Mr Mallon, said it was his client’s case that Mr Block had not achieved targets set out in his contract.

Ercus Stewart, SC, for Mr Block, said there was “not a semblance of natural justice” in Choice Broadcasting’s case. His client’s dismissal was “blatantly unfair”, he said.

Mr Block was chief executive at 4FM from its opening in March 2008 until February 2010. The station is still on air. The case was adjourned with a date for mention set for March 12th.
