Postal services in Dublin 4 were halted today after a suspect anthrax package was received at a sorting office in Ballsbridge.

"The delivery office will remain closed pending test results of the contents of a suspect package, and all 60 staff have been referred for precautionary medical treatment," a statement from An Post said.

Earlier, the offices of the Sunday Worldnewspaper in Terenure, Dublin, were the scene of an anthrax scare after a letter containing "white crystals and a suspicious note" was delivered.

A Garda spokesman said gardaí, fire and army emergency services attended the scene and usual procedures were followed.

A spokesperson for the newspaper told ireland.comtwo employees were decontaminated and described the incident as "minor".

Emergency services were also called to the International Financial Services Centre in Dublin at 10.30 a.m. after a letter containing white powder was opened.

Twenty employees were in the room where the letter was opened and white powder fell on the ground, a Garda spokesman said.
