A small oil spill in Dublin Port was brought under control early this morning.

According to a statement from Dublin Port Company, an oil tanker, the m.v. Blackrock, discharged gas oil into the dock during routine ballasting operations.

The oil was contained in a small area by booms as part of the Port’s pollution response procedure.

The Irish Coastguard helicopter searched the area at first light and found no significant traces of oil or evidence of any impact to wildlife or the environment.
