Car-owners in Dublin pay an average of £100 more than Munster people for motor premiums, a leading insurance company admitted yesterday. Four-fifths of all drivers have never made a claim, and of those who have, most have done so only once, according to a survey commissioned by Guardian/PMPA insurance.
The average car premium in the Republic is £425, the Lansdowne Market Research poll said. Male drivers pay an average of £429, while females pay £418. "Dublin is the most expensive region for car insurance, with an average premium cost of £480, compared to £421 for the rest of Leinster, £384 in Munster and £418 in Connacht/Ulster," Guardian said.
Guardian said that the report showed 78 per cent of those who had made a claim were either fairly satisfied or very satisfied with the way the claim had been handled. One in five declared themselves dissatisfied, with the majority blaming the slow pace with which the claim had been processed.
