The jury has been discharged in the trial of a man who was charged with carrying heroin and ecstasy valued £1 million into Dublin Airport on a flight from Amsterdam in 1995.

Judge Dominic Lynch was told a member of the jury felt intimidated when the accused, Mr Declan Griffin (29), approached her outside a shop. He remanded him in custody, saying he had clearly abused his terms of bail. It was the third day of the trial.

Mr Griffin, Bunratty Road, Coolock, Dublin, had denied six charges of possession of heroin and ecstasy for sale and supply and importing heroin and ecstasy at Dublin Airport on December 20th, 1995.

Garda Oliver Cully told Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, prosecuting, that Mr Griffin approached the woman outside a supermarket in Clondalkin on Tuesday. She told him she didn't know him and he replied: "You do know me, you're on the jury." She warned him they should not be talking and later told Garda Cully she had felt intimidated.
