Dublin cyclists will gather in their hundreds this eveining to vent their frustrations about poor road conditions and reckless drivers.

The "Critical Mass" meeting will take place at the Garden of Remembrance at 6 p.m.

A spokesman for the group organising the rally said it hopes to "raise awareness" as cyclists often "feel invisible" on the roads.

It is estimated there are 25,000 commuter cyclists in Dublin and that 5 per cent of road users in the capital are cyclists. Cyclists make up 29 per cent of road deaths in Dublin, the group says.

"It is not an exercise to annoy motorists. The point is to show everyone . . . how much safer and more pleasant it makes their streets," the spokesman added.
