THE Northern Ireland Community Relations Council has called on the Northern Secretary, Sir Patrick Mayhew, to establish an inquiry into the events surrounding the Drumcree standoff.
While welcoming the independent review of parades and the police review of the use of plastic bullets during the summer, the council chairman, Mr Jonathan Bardon, said yesterday a comprehensive review of Drumcree was needed.
He had informed the Northern Secretary that "progress on the parades issue will be difficult unless possible policy and operational shortcomings of the summer can be identified and improvements suggested for the future".
