A man who delivered £200,000 worth of cannabis resin in Dublin has been jailed for six and a half years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
David Hogarty (34), from Princess Street, Dublin 2 was found to have delivered 10 kilogrammes of the drug to an address on London Bridge Street in Ringsend on November 13th, 1999.
Garda Michael Phelan said that after the premises was searched, Hogarty was followed and stopped at Pearse Street where he was found in possession of another 10 kilogrammes of cannabis resin.
Garda Phelan told Judge Elizabeth Dunne that Hogarty was paid £150 to make the delivery. He knew he was transporting cannabis resin but he wasn't aware of its market value.
Garda Phelan said Hogarty was employed by a former work colleague who has since absconded. He had been delivering drugs for three months on a fortnightly basis.
Defence counsel Mr Brendan Grogan SC said Hogarty was a father of two and had no previous convictions. He also cared for his sick father.
Judge Dunne said that although Hogarty had been an unlikely candidate to appear before the court, she was bound by law to impose a custodial sentence.
