A Jamaican woman jailed for 10 years for importing cocaine worth £250,000 into the State had her sentence reduced to seven years at the Court of Criminal Appeal yesterday.
Diane Cameron (33), a native of Jamaica, was jailed for a total of 10 years for having 51 capsules of cocaine at Shannon on November 12th, 1998.
Giving the court's ruling, the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Keane, said it was a very unfortunate case. He said Cameron was serving a lengthy prison sentence away from her native land. She had allowed herself to be used as a courier of a very significant amount of cocaine.
Taking all the circumstances into account, the court would allow the appeal and substitute a total seven-year sentence for the original sentence, he said.
