A drug addict who threatened shop staff during robberies with a syringe filled with a "pinkish-red" liquid has been jailed for five years by Judge Esmonde Smyth in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Eric Robinson (20), of Lourdes House, Dublin, and another man were arrested on October 4th, 1995 while they loitered outside a shop on Lower Mount Street, Dublin.

Robinson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob the shop and to committing robberies at four other city shops in 1995-1996.

Judge Smyth said that in view of a positive recommendation in his probation report he would review the sentence on May 5th, 1998.
