The North Eastern Health Board is offering a vaccine to children and staff at Scoil Aonghusa national school in Drogheda after two students were confirmed as having contracted Type C bacterial meningitis. The 10-year-old boy and five-year-old girl are both being treated in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and were said to be responding well to treatment. Yesterday the board confirmed that a seven-year-old boy from Drogheda, who attends a different primary school, is being treated for suspected meningitis, but the diagnosis has not been confirmed. A 10-month-old Navan boy was treated for meningococcal meningitis Type B in recent weeks and he made a full recovery. In Co. Monaghan a 17-year-old boy is being treated for suspected meningitis.
