This weekend is set to be quieter on the roads compared to the heavy traffic generated by the All Ireland hurling finals last weekend.

Nevertheless, there are a number of sporting events, road works and festivals worth keeping in mind if you intend hitting the road.

Leinster face Munster on Saturday in Celtic League Rugby at Donnybrook, with kick-off is at 5.15 p.m. The All-Ireland minor hurling final replay takes place on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Tullamore, while Tipperary take on Cork in the Camogie Final at Croke Park at 3.30 p.m.

Racing takes place at the Curragh on both Saturday and Sunday and in Listowel Co. Kerry on Sunday.

Routes worth avoiding over the weekend include the N6 outside Kinnegad, where roadworks have reduced traffic to one lane, and the N2 at the Carrickmacross bypass, where there is a one-way shuttle traffic system in operation. Long delays are expected.

The Upper Kilmacud Road in Dundrum remains closed for work on the footbridge. A diversion is in place.

The Dublin Fringe Festival gets under way on Monday as does the 46 thannual International Festival of Light Opera in Waterford. The Bulmers International Comedy Festival continues in Dublin over the weekend, with Ed Byrne, Lenny Henry and Jasper Carrott taking the stage.

Weatherwise, the possibility of an Indian summer is very much in doubt, with cooler, fresher weather forecast for the weekend.
