GARDAÍ WERE last night questioning an elderly motorist following a hit-and-run incident in Co Clare which left a 42-year-old man critically injured.
The driver, in his 70s, was formally arrested yesterday afternoon after his camper-van was earlier intercepted by gardaí on the outskirts of Ennis after he allegedly left the scene of the incident in west Clare.
Gardaí are investigating the possibility that the injured man, named locally as Brian O’Shea, was first struck by the passing camper-van before being run over by a car trailer at Garraunatooha, about 6km from Kilrush, where Mr O’Shea had been helping a friend move cattle.
Garda Inspector Tom Kennedy has appealed for witnesses to contact them at Kilrush 065- 9080550.
