A MAN who drove thieves in his car after providing weapons and disguises for them would have been paid with heroin, the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told yesterday.
Hugh McWeeney was so afraid for his life and the safety of his mother that he refused to name the two men who robbed Kinsealy service station, according to Det Garda Paul Keeley.
He brought the men to his home, gave them clothes, weapons and masks before driving them to the scene of the crime and back to his house, Det Garda Keeley said. The gang stole £406 in cash and cigarettes valued £150.
McWeeney (23), of Forest Walk, Swords, Co Dublin, a fitter, pleaded guilty before Judge Michael Moriarty to his role in the crime, which was committed on October 21st, 1993. He was remanded in custody for sentence on April 15th.
His counsel said McWeeney had collected £1,000 as compensation for the female staff member at the filling station.
