The 23-year-old man who died in a Dublin Garda station while being held on suspicion of drunken driving may have succumbed to the effects of alcohol and drugs, according to local gardai, writes Jim Cusack, Security Correspondent. The man, Francis Brooks, of Rathfarnham, was brought to Tallaght Garda station at around midnight on Thursday after being arrested under Section 49 of the Road Traffic Act.
He was seen at around 5 a.m. on Friday and said to be showing no signs of distress. At 7.30 a.m., he was checked again and was no longer breathing. He was taken to Tallaght Hospital and declared dead at 8.20 a.m.
