BISHOP Brendan Comiskey spent most of yesterday working behind closed doors in his house with his legal, financial and PR advisers, reports Andy Pollak. He also saw his physician, Dr Paddy McKiernan, for a second time since his return to Wexford.

It is understood that the preparation of his statement and answers for a press conference to be held later this week because his doctor is insisting he take plenty of rest breaks.

A source close to the bishop said last night that such periods of rest were an essential part of the aftercare treatment for a recovering alcoholic.

Bishop Comiskey also left his house in Summerhill outside Wexford town to say 6 o'clock mass at Rowe Street church in Wexford town. He also visited Wexford General Hospital to meet priests and patients there. He also phoned the Papal Nuncio, Dr Luciano Storero. Today he will say mass at Wexford's other church, the Church of the Assumption.
