A CO DOWN man in his 50s is holding a fast on the summit of Cave Hill, overlooking Belfast, saying he will not eat until the leader of the IRA promises to sign his "holy document" calling for 1,000 years of peace in Northern Ireland.
The man, calling himself King Om, has declared Cave Hill a holy mountain and has promised to take only water for 40 days and 40 nights until the IRA leader signs his document.known locally as Napoleon's Nose.
The conflict in Northern Ireland has attracted many eccentric figures with "messages" of bringing about peace. Some years ago, a man rode a horse around the North towing a large crucifix.
Shots fired into Clondalkin house
Shots were fired into a house in Clondalkin early yesterday, shortly after a man was threatened with a shotgun nearby.
The incident took place just after 1 a.m. when a man leaving a house at Lindesfarne Green was threatened by another man who approached as he got into his car. A shotgun was pointed through the passenger window.
The driver was able to drive off and reported what had happened to gardai. When they arrived at the scene, they found two pellets had been fired at the front window of a house.
The incident appears linked to two other shootings into houses in Clondalkin two weeks ago.
