Ireland's first president, Douglas Hyde, will be remembered at a day-long conference dealing with The Economy vs the People: Ireland's Divided Mind, on November 4th, at the Border, Midland Western Regional Assembly, Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon.

His father, Rev Arthur Hyde, was Church of Ireland rector at Tibohine nearby. He is remembered annually in Co Roscommon by Comhdháil an Chraoibhín/the Douglas Hyde Conference, which has been taking place since 1989.
