A doorman has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for robbing a pub where he used to work.

Eugene Fitzgerald (38), married with two children, of Whitestown Avenue, Clonsilla, Dublin, was one of a gang which stole £6,330 on August 8th, 1993, from Blakes Tavern, Clonsilla. He pleaded guilty. The final year of the sentence was suspended.

Det Garda Niall Jones said Fitzgerald formerly worked at Blakes as a bouncer. Three masked men with pick axes forced staff to lie on the ground. The senior barman was taken at knife point to the safe and forced to hand over the money.

Judge Kieran O'Connor was told Fitzgerald was currently serving a five year sentence for assaulting a bar man at Blakes.
