The Sisters of Mercy in Moville, Co Donegal, have closed their convent after 137 years due to falling vocations. The original convent was a place of rest for nuns from overcrowded city classrooms in Derry. When the adjoining church and school were built, the sisters got involved in teaching as well as visiting the sick, work which continued until recently.
When it closed, the convent had just two nuns left.
