The euro has continued its retreat from Tuesday's record highs this morning against the dollar and sterling.
The euro dropped under $1.17 this morning on speculation of next week's European Central Bank (ECB) policy meeting.
At 10.05 a.m. (Irish time) the euro was trading at $1.1699, down half a percentage point on the day and nearly 2.7 per cent from its record high.
Sterling maintained its slight recovery as the single currency eased to £0.7160 from an all-time high of £0.7253 on Tuesday.

But the euro stretched its gains against the yen as the Japanese currency eased. The euro reached 139.56 Yen, a new lifetime high, while the dollar rose to 118.9 Yen, its highest in two weeks.
