A complex mechanism for business people who wish to use Irish documents abroad for legal purposes has been simplified, according to a statement from the Minister for Equality and Law Reform, Mr Taylor.

The Department of Foreign Affairs will now be able to eliminate cumbersome transactions with 48 countries, representing the bulk of Irish trade.

A standard one sheet document, called an "apostille", will be issued under a Hague Convention dating back to 1961. The Government ratified the convention this week.
