London - Doctors yesterday described the decision to allow women into the boxing ring as providing equal opportunities for eye and brain damage.
Dr Bill O'Neill, of the British Medical Association, said the ruling to let girls as young as 13 box could cause serious and irreversible damage to their health.
He warned that younger people were more likely to sustain injuries from boxing because their bodies were still developing.
The British Medical Association has been calling for a ban on boxing for the past 10 years.
