A Britannia Airways jet with 382 passengers on board was diverted from Shannon to Dublin yesterday morning, following a problem with the aircraft's battery status warning light.

A spokeswoman for Britannia Airways, who described the incident as "no big deal", said engineers "just needed to flick a switch".

The Boeing 767, flight number BY 637B, was flying from Orlando in Florida to Dublin, via Shannon. It was due to land in Shannon at 7.25 a.m. when the pilot noted the technical problem.

On the advice of the airline's operational headquarters at Luton airport, the craft was flown straight to Dublin airport where Brittania Airlines has its own engineers.
