A dissident republican from south Armagh has been beaten up by members of the Provisional IRA, according to dissident sources. The man was seriously injured when he was attacked by two men in a pub in north Louth, a few miles from the Border. He suffered head wounds and was taken to hospital, reports Suzanne Breen, in Belfast.
He is still receiving medical treatment and his condition is unknown. The incident has further raised tensions between republican supporters and opponents of the peace process in the area. The man, who is in his 30s, is from a well-know republican family in Dromintee. His wife is the sister of a dead IRA member. He is understood to be sympathetic to the views of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement.
It is understood he was one of the dissidents threatened by the Provisional IRA a fortnight ago.
