Geneva - India and Pakistan clashed yesterday at a UN disarmament conference over nuclear developments on the sub-continent.
Pakistan's delegate, Mr Munir Akram, accused India of being about to "embark on a further and even more dangerous escalation in the nuclear and conventional arms build up", and said Pakistan would be "obliged to respond". He was referring to India's new nuclear doctrine, a draft of which was published this week.
India's representative, Mr Savitri Kunadi, said that by publishing the draft, India demonstrated to the world that it was "committed to greater transparency in decision making".
