Two disabled men were assaulted - one with a saw held to his throat - by a gang of car thieves near Belfast, police revealed today.

The thieves also threatened to kill their victims during a terrifying encounter in Dunmurry, Co Antrim.

One of the men, a 49-year-old who uses a walking stick, disturbed three youths as they tried to steal his car outside his home at Cherry Walk late last night.

They fled but later came back with another four accomplices and attacked him, police said.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "A disabled neighbour who tried to intervene had a saw held to his throat.

"The youths then smashed a number of windows in the victim's house and threatened that they would return to kill him.

"The man was severely shaken in the ordeal and had to be conveyed to hospital."
