A directory of services for women who experience violence was launched yesterday by the Eastern Regional Planning Committee on Violence Against Women.

The directory is aimed at helping organisations which deal with violence against women, such as those running refuges and community groups, as well as Women's Aid and the Rape Crisis Centre.

The publication will also be useful for health boards, local authorities, Government departments and probation services.

The directory provides information on a geographical basis in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow on the Garda, support services providing legal advice, and on accommodation. It is colour-coded on a regional basis and also contains emergency numbers.

Counselling and specific services for refugees and asylum-seekers as well as for male perpetrators of violence against women are also listed.

The Minister of State for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Ms Mary Wallace, called on those with copies of the directory to pass the information on to those who need it most.

"I would ask the service providers listed to make contact with the other services available to women experiencing violence," she said.
