A diesel spill almost seven miles long ran straight through the town of Navan, Co Meath, yesterday. The spill occurred just after 8.30 a.m. on the Athboy to Navan road. The Garda in Navan said it flowed through the town centre and continued for one mile down the Dublin Road. The incident happened when the cooling unit fell off a container lorry and was dragged along the road until it burst open, leaving a trail of diesel. Four minor accidents were reported as a result of the spillage but there were no injuries. Meath County Council has gritted the road and will be monitoring the area over the next few days.
