Railway detonators which could cause serious injury have been stolen from beside a track, police said today.

The small, round, yellow discs used to issue warnings in an emergency were taken from the line near Bride End station, in central Belfast, sometime overnight.

A PSNI spokesman said: “They are dangerous and could cause serious injury if used inappropriately. The police would warn members of the public that these detonators should not be handled.”

He appealed for anyone with any information about the theft of the one and a half inch diameter devices to contact police — and warned that if spotted they should not be touched.
