Police arrested a 35-year-old man after his vehicle was stopped in the Tattymoyle Road, near Tempo. The man was being questioned by detectives last night while forensic officers examined his car and also carried out an examination of the murder scene.
Sinn Féin MP for Fermanagh-South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew said she was deeply saddened to learn of the “brutal murder” and that her thoughts were with the injured woman and the family of Mr Woods.
“Never, in all my years as an elected representative, did I ever expect something like this to happen in Tempo and I know that the community as a whole are shocked by this incident,” she said.
Local SDLP Assembly member Tommy Gallagher said the murder was “shocking” and had “left the people of the Tempo area completely shocked and saddened.” Local Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott said anyone with information about the murder must bring it forward to the police. “This is a very sad turn of events for this small community. There is a huge sense of shock here as news breaks of the tragic circumstances. It is a close-knit community and everyone is trying to come to terms with news of this murder,” he said.
