French World Cup star Marcel Desailly has made it clear he is unhappy about being played out of position by his Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri.
Desailly played well in midfield for AC Milan during the Italian side's glory years, and Ranieri attempted to use him in a similar role at Fulham 10 days ago in the absence of Frank Lampard through suspension.
But Ranieri soon reverted to a back-three, with Desailly dropping backwards as Fulham were dominating the game.
If the experienced French international plays at Coventry tonight in the League Cup, it seems clear that it will be as a centre-back.
"I will just make a point of saying that what happened at Fulham will not happen again," the 33-year-old Frenchman said on his personal website.
"Namely that I started off as a defensive midfielder and then, after 10 minutes, I returned to a central defensive role.
"Today, Marcel Desailly is a central defender. That's a point I wanted to make, I will not play again in midfield".
