ONLY nine IDA jobs were created in north east Donegal last year, according to Fianna Fail's Mr Jim McDaid, a TD for the area.
Speaking after the release of the IDA's figures for 1995, which showed record figures, for foreign owned companies investing in Ireland, Mr McDaid said his constituency of Donegal North East had seen very little evidence of this increased activity.
Welcoming the net gain of 6,557 jobs throughout the State, Mr McDaid said the feel good factor was certainly not evident in his constituency where, he claimed, there was a net increase of just nine, jobs. "It would appear that things are standing still in Donegal," he said.
"I don't blame the IDA, who have always worked very hard to promote inward investment, but I would definitely attach blame to the present Government who do not see it as a priority to use EU funding for the development of Border regions."
An IDA spokesman said Donegal was doing relatively well. "Some 253 new jobs were created in the county, a 3 per cent increase in actual employment by IDA companies. Other Border counties are behind Donegal, in terms of investment by foreign owned companies."
